Full medium ruby. Highly aromatic, expressive nose combines currant, espresso, saddle leather and roasted meat. Sweet, lush and smooth, but given definition by its vinosity. Not especially refined, but plummy and mouthfilling. Ripe tannins saturate the teeth and the sides of the mouth on the long finish.

An exotic perfume of tapenade, new saddle leather, damp earth, black currants, cherries, and smoke jumps from the glass of this impressive, powerful 1999. The wine is medium-bodied with moderate tannin. This dark plum/ruby-colored St.-Julien requires another 2-3 years of cellaring.

Well done. Good, dark color to this '99, with lots of plummy, berry and cassis character. It's medium- to full-bodied, with fine tannins and a medium finish. 21,500 cases made.

What a pretty wine. Needs 1-2 hours in a decanter, as the 2nd glass was more properly developed. Quite classic and enveloping with St Julien aromas of lead pencil, dark fruit and leather. Medium-full, and long. Tannins smoothed out and integrated on that 2nd hour. Great show. 82 96 and now 99. This house knows how to do it in big and small years.
