This is a clear notch up in quality with explosive black cherry fruits and a very intense inner core of sappy, dense and marvelously long pinot essence. Quintessential Chambolle with its finesse and delicacy but this is most assuredly not light and it finishes quite firmly and with solid minerality.

($60) Deep red-ruby color. Aromas of raspberry, bitter chocolate and coffee. Sweet, lush and concentrated, with a compelling balance of sucrosity and bright acidity. Really packed with fruit. A long, serious premier cru with terrific thrust.

Lovely complex nose with so many layers. Unlike the Dujacs there are no problems here with this 1999, even if we have passed into another stage of evolution from the 21st century vintages. Bravo again! Satin smooth at first and then masses of fine tannins. Should last for a very long time. Quite firm really, especially underneath, but the ripeness of fruit on the front palate distracts from this.

The 1999 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras is medium to dark ruby-colored and has blackberry and currant aromas. This fresh, satin-textured, and medium-bodied wine is loaded with an assortment of dark fruits and spices. It is well-made and possesses loads of sweet ripe tannin.
