($84) Deep ruby-red. Vibrant, intensely spicy aromas of blackberry, violet, white pepper and roast coffee. Supersweet flavors are like a coulis of berries. But brisk acidity and a strong mineral component give this wine great penetration and vivacity in the mouth. Very long, firmly minerally aftertaste.

Produced from 45 hectoliters per hectare yields, the red cherry-scented 1999 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers is a medium-bodied, lush wine. Its red cherry and raspberry flavors are candied, tangy, and lively. It is well-delineated, seamless, and harmonious.

Just ok, hasn't really improved all that much.

Very noticeable oak and wood spice on the nose. Would have guessed west coast pinot. still, it was quite a good wine - the nose had very pretty dark fruits in addition to the wood, and it had a long finish with a good balance between the tannins and acidity. Not my cup of tea, but certainly a good performance for the style.

About This Producer

With his son Serge, Robert Groffier creates spectacular Pinot Noirs that are the powerful benchmarks of the respective communes. The Amoureuses, with its succulent fruit, is a kaleidoscope of aromatics and flavorsl. The Clos de Beze is an effort unto itself and has a mouth-coating, sweet earthy, gamy, bramble quality that is elegant and classy. The Sentiers and Haut Doix Chambolles offer classic, high-toned red berry and cherry elements that tend toward a bit more elegance and herb in the former and supple, round vibrancy in the latter.
