Reviews For This Wine

Jancis Robinson | 17.5

Thick, dense, transparent and minty. Lively, compared with the Brunello 1999.

A fine offering, the 1999 Solengo is a blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese, and Syrah. This opaque purple-colored offering exhibits gorgeously ripe blackberry and cassis fruit mixed with scents of leather, charcoal, earth, and wood. Dense, opulent, and full-bodied, with sweet tannin in the finish, it is still youthful and unevolved, but promises to drink splendidly well between 2004-2015.

Wine Spectator | 94

A wine with a generous amount of everything, but in a harmonious, pretty way. An abundance of tobacco, cedar and berry character. Full-bodied and chewy, with loads of fruit and a long, long finish. One of the hottest wines in Tuscany at the moment. 3,165 cases made.

Very inking and loads of cherry. Drink now but has lots of backbone. Excellent super Tuscan and great year as I remember it.

Site Blog: Unidentified Appellation Apparently the varietal make-up of this wine will never mirror the 1999, as the winery ceased to used Sangiovese in the cepage after this vintage. Boy was this wine in my wheelhouse! Spanish cedar, roasted tobacco, rosemary, porcini and a truckload of fruit present themselves in a truly astounding nose (god these 99?s had it goin? on?what a vintage!). Wondrous depth and richness was found within the spicy palate of pure blackberry ganache fruit that had a near-perfect presence in the mouth which, for lack of a better word, was sinful! While the wine lost a bit of steam on the finish, it was so glorious that I can'thelp but vote w/ my heart and score it 97 points. Life?s too short to not stash away a couple bottles of this elixir!

About This Producer

Argiano is a reliable, 30-hectare estate in Montalcino producing modern style Brunello di Montalcino, with Riservas designated for the best vintages. They also make a Rosso di Montalcino and, since 1995, a "Super Tuscan" called Solengo (Sangiovese, Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah). The Villa of Argiano is a magnificent construction, built in the Renaissance by the Peccis, a noble family from Siena. The land has been farmed by local nobles since the 1500s. The vineyards are composed of limestone and clay with large quantities of minerals. Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano has owned the property since 1991. She hired both Giacomo Tachis and Sebastiano Rosa.
