Red-ruby. Flamboyant aromas of black raspberry, Cuban tobacco, animal fur, flint, mocha and tar. Very dense and intensely flavored, with firm but harmonious acidity giving shape to the flavors. Tight but sweet on the finish, with a note of graphite. The percentage of new oak has gone down steadily since the first vintage in 1994 and is now 50%. The wine's 6% viognier component serves "to open the wine, to broaden it," says winemaker Francoise Peschon.

Although has lot of finesse its lacks of depth and short finish. It seems past its peak.Drink now.

This is a beautifully put together harmonious Syrah. Dark black red color with a soaring complex nose of vanilla spice, slight game, white pepper, black fruits, and licorice. Persistent flavors that echo the nose coat the palate. Supple tannins and perfect acidity are hallmarks of this wine. Because of the wine?s balance, it can be drunk now but cellaring for up to another 12 to 15 years is possible. Tasting this wine always makes me wish more acreage in Northern Napa Valley was devoted to this varietal. Somewhat reminiscent of La Mouline.
