Good bright deep red. Deep aromas of roasted red fruits and underbrush. Large-scaled, rich and rather unrefined, with notes of cherry, leather, smoke and earth. Huge, mouthcoating, rather rustic finish. Not showing quite the verve it displayed from barrel a year ago but undeniably massive.

The 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits a roasted herb, concentrated style with notes of scorched earth, licorice, cherry liqueur, and pepper. Full-bodied and intense, it is representative of a traditional Chateauneuf du Pape made from primarily Grenache.
