The wine looks years and years younger than the 1997 and tastes it. There's an explosion of mulberries on the palate but this is swiftly followed up by a tightening of concentration and tannins. To tame this wine, try it with roast lamb. The fat will help those tannins along according to M Caprai.

Produced from 100% Sagrantino, this monster, chewy, dense purple-colored Italian red could pass for a big, old vine, California Zinfandel. Briery fruit, earth, pepper, and spice characteristics are accompanied by good underlying acidity and sweet tannin. This wine saturates the mouth in a rustic, full-blown style. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
