Wine Advocate Author: Robert Parker Issue: 136

The 1998 Numanthia is an explosively rich, super-concentrated wine of riveting intensity. The color is a dense purple, and the wine has soaked up its 18 months in new French oak. It offers a smoky, blackberry and cherry-scented nose of extraordinary purity and precision. Full-bodied, enormously-endowed, and unctuously-textured, this monstrous wine displays tremendous potential. Because of its low acidity, it can be approached now, but it is best aged for another 2-3 years, and drunk over the following two decades. This compelling new offering proves what can be achieved in the appellation of Toro. Bravo!

Wine Spectator Author: Thomas Matthews

This ambitious red has an inky-purple color, intense oaky aromas, mouthfilling tannins and cassis, vanilla and toasty flavors. A big wine in the international style that will please the blockbuster crowd. 2,500 cases made.

Opened and let sit for 2-3 hours. This was almost as life changing as I was hoping it would be. This was huge, full bodied, but the tannins are definitely in check and it was so refined. It's so smooth and just delicious with black cherry, cola and predominance of blueberries. Absolutely compelling and delicious. At 13 years old this has plenty of life and these Toros need this kind of age. Fantastic with roast lamb.

Sweet cherry bursts on the nose. Tastes like candy and cedar with earthy under tones to remind you that you are drinking a glass of wine.
