Bright medium ruby. Spicy aromas of roasted red fruits and black cherry, leather and fresh herbs; comes across as cooler than the Renaissance bottling. Less sweet and giving in the mouth; tougher and more severe than the young-vines version. Flavors of leather, licorice and herbs. Tannins spread over the entire palate. This will need a good seven or eight years of patience.

The big, classic 1998 Cornas reveals hard tannin, medium to full body, a dense ruby/purple color, and a muscular, backstrapping, husky style that requires 5-6 years of cellaring. It will last for 16-18 years, but it does not have much fat, glycerin or sweetness.

Blockbuster red. Supple, delivering plenty of warm flavors verging almost on raisiny, and full-bodied, offering round, rich tannins and concentrated fruit. Has a massive, chewy structure that's given support by excellent ripeness. Much better than two samples previously reviewed.

Big and full flavored. Supple tannis with rich nose and earthy flavors including tobacco, tea leaves and a hint of jasmine. The wine is peaking but could last another two years.
