More saturated ruby. Rather similar in aromas (blackcurrant and oak spices) but a bit weightier and fuller on the nose. More concentrated than the 1996, with attractive oak notes to complement the cassis. Still, this doesn't show the depth or complexity one might expect from an outstanding vintage. Sweet. pointed. Round and mellow and quite evolved. Very charming but more relaxed, loose and French than the California style and sweetness of the Ornellaia. Very appetising. Light and very Cabernet.
Medium-dark ruby in the glass, with pretty aromas of spices, black currant, cherries and blackberries, this Tuscan red is full-bodied on the palate, with intense velvety tannins. Long, long finish. An outstanding Sassicaia.

When first decanted was mean and disjointed but after 4 hrs opened up with very ripe,sweet fruit and commendable palate length.Still robust tannins suggest 5 to 10 more yrs till its peak.

WOW! I could sit and smell this for hours and continue to drag new components from the bouquet. Plum, green pepper, wet earth, licorice. Dense tannin and an abundance of raspberry and plum on the palate. Finish is long and dry. Hold.
