International Wine Cellar Author: Daniel Thomases Issue: Issue 91

Dark ruby. Cassis and a light herbaceousness on the nose; nicely expansive aromas but less sweet than usual for this wine. Blackcurrant fruit betrays a slight greenness; seems less ripe than, and distinctly inferior to, the excellent 1996. Finishes full and long on the palate, still tannic and slightly rough in texture.

Black color. Aromas of blackberries, minerals and mint. Very subtle. Full-bodied, with amazing concentration of silky tannins and a finish that goes on and on. Monumental Sammarco. Best ever for me. 3,500 cases made.

Not just standard licorice and earth, but Flower on the nose..super long finish. Amazing Tuscan gem!

Moderate plus red colored wine with a few thin barely colored legs. A reticent nose of herbs, plum, and medicine. Very prominent grainy and persistent tannins with slightly high acidity. Put this one in the cellar for a long time and hope for the best ? the balance of this wine is worrying. If the wine pulls itself together then my score will look conservative but I doubt this will occur.
