Good medium ruby. Briary blackberry, black cherry, mocha, cinnamon, mace and a hint of menthol on the nose. Thick, rich and layered, with superripe black fruit and dark chocolate flavors and a primary, grapey aspect. Chewy and dense yet rather approachable for this wine. Finishes with substantial but ripe tannins.

This wine is the product of a small micro-vinification from a 5-acre vineyard on the upper eastern hillsides of Napa Valley. David Abreu, the well-known vineyard manager, oversees the vineyard, and acclaimed wine consultant, Heidi Barrett, makes the wine. The sensational 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon (800 cases produced) is the finest effort yet from the Jones Family. The color is a saturated blue/purple. The nose offers up classic mineral, blueberry, creme de cassis, and subtle toasty oak notes. Full-bodied, with stunning purity, a multi-layered, full-bodied palate impression, and an explosive finish, this wine requires 2-3 years of cellaring; it will age nicely for 20-25 years.
