Shows the ripeness of the vintage, with high-octane plum, smoke and blackberry, and plenty of viscosity (think 50-weight motor oil). Still managing to remain balanced, with sufficient tannins and a hint of minerals, but could use a little more palate-cleansing acidity. Long finish displays sweet tannins. A good pairing with well seasoned grilled fare. Drink now through 2012.

Far better than anticipated. Parker said to drink by 2010, so I assumed it would be in decline because his drinking ranges are so incredibly long. It was still tight when uncorked, but opened beautifully. Still has very nice fruit. Was better with each glass. Wish I had more!

Pepper, spice, leather with blended with rich, dark fruits. Decanted for an hour and it got better with time. Not complex, but a pleasure to drink. No signs of age, but at the top of its game

We tasted the 1997 and 1998 Caymus side by side. Both wines had deep red color and good body. The 1998 was a bit rough and really did not taste all that good. I considered this one corked. The 1997 was nice from the start and got better as time went on. After an hour it was soft, it had more dark fruit and chocolate type flavors. Very nice!
