International Wine Cellar Author: Stephen Tanzer Issue: Issue 93

Medium-deep red. Superripe, aromatic nose of plum, cherry and loam; not at all over the top. Sweet, pliant and full, with surprising vinosity for the vintage. Not as dense as the '96 but very attractive. Finishes with sweet, fine tannins.

Wine Advocate Author: Robert Parker Issue: 135

The dense ruby/garnet-colored, tightly-knit 1997 Barolo Bussia Soprana offers notions of earth, cherries, and balsam wood. Full-bodied, with good acidity (particularly for the vintage), moderately high tannin, and a firm finish, it possesses plenty of power.

Lovely, perfumed red, with roses, cedar, berry and hints of leather. Medium- to full-bodied, with firm yet silky tannins and a long, fruity finish. All in finesse. 1,850 cases made.

Not sure when I had this before but was super impressed. Color, fruit and balance all very good. Much better than expected.

Deep brooding traditional style. Very "Animal" in its aroma. Mouthfeel is rich but elegant at the same time. MUST have with gamey foods.

Tasted at a restaurant so just a brief note. Decanted for about 3o minutes prior to consumption. This wine was simply beautiful. Maturing very nicely - but with still copious amounts of slightly balsamic laced fruit - with significant tannin on the finish. Extremely impressive and worth buying again. Can go another decade easily. Decanting is necessary because the wine has thrown considerable sediment.

Consume this outstanding effort between 2006-2020.
