A ripe, complex and still mostly primary fruited nose with a slightly green undercurrent that continues onto the palate. There is also an ever-so-slight spritz that causes this to seem a touch greener than it probably is. In short, this is perfectly pleasant but it needs a minimum of 30 minutes in a decanter to really open up and even, this is more of a solid than great wine. Drink now or hold for another 2 to 3 years first.

The medium to dark ruby-colored 1997 Echezeaux offers a nose packed with dark cherries and notes of grilled oak. This is a large, masculine, structured wine, crammed with blackberries and cassis. It is rich, sweet, complex, medium to full-bodied, and has an admirably persistent finish.

Beautiful wine, drinking perfectly now. Echezeau has some of the wildness in it, great fruit, primary, but still excellent structure
