Opaque bright ruby. Knockout superripe nose combines currant and black cherry liqueur, melted caramel, peat and smoky French oak; almost a hint of raisin. Thick, sweet and extremely ripe, with the raisiny note repeating. Velvety, seamless and very deep. This huge, rather exotic Pesquera will be a crowdpleaser, but I prefer the more classic "regular" reserva.

The dense plum-colored 1996 Reserva exhibits an ostentatious bouquet of smoky oak, earth, tobacco, licorice, and jammy red and black fruits. Full-bodied, thick, rich, and mouthfilling, this opulent wine possesses structure as well as tannin. However, it is delicious already.

This inky red is plush and mouthfilling, with an amazing concentration of plum, boysenberry, chocolate and licorice flavors over muscular yet graceful tannins. It's thoroughly modern in style, yet remains deeply rooted in its terroir. 2,500 cases made.
