A rapidly maturing (if not fully mature) nose of earth, spice and a mix of primary and secondary fruit aromas that lead to nicely detailed and clearly softening middle weight flavors that still possess a touch of underlying tannin that should have the fruit to resolve over time without drying out. In short, this is pretty if not sensational.

When I tasted this medium-to-dark ruby-colored wine for the first time in Burgundy I scored it slightly higher than I did at a blind tasting State-side a few months later (the quoted score is the most recent). Smoked bacon blows off after a few minutes revealing blackberries, cassis, stones, and a dusting of mocha powder. This highly pleasing, expansive, and expressive wine is filled with blueberries, spices, plums, brambleberries, iron, and traces of underbrush. Medium-to-full-bodied and oily-textured (yet lively), it appeared to have more complexity and a longer finish when I first tasted it. Will that return?

Very elegant, mature pinot. Needs time to open up. Soft flavors of red berry fruit and dried rose petals. Notes of spice and smoky mesquite on the back end. Tannins perfectly integrated. Subtle finish with decent length.
