International Wine Cellar Author: Stephen Tanzer Issue: Issue 97

Ruby-red. Complex, high-toned, oak-driven aromas of mocha, flowers, spices, bourbon, peat, licorice, vanilla, cigar tobacco and earth. Juicy and penetrating, with strong mineral, lead pencil, espresso and tobacco flavors. Has a solid backbone and noteworthy grip, but shows no hard edges. Finishes with big, ripe tannins and excellent length.

6% Cabernet Sauvignon. Magill Estate included in this vintage (replanted 65-70 yrs ago).Very sweet like sugared plums in spiced vanilla. Dense and tight on the palate but a long way to go. Much less sweet on the palate, darker with liquorice, mouthfilling, lacks elegance (yet) and a bit warm at the very end. (JH)

Wine Advocate Author: Robert Parker

This dark purple-colored wine exhibits notes of sweet plum, blackberry, and cassis intermixed with some licorice, chocolate, and espresso. It is a blend of 94% Shiraz and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon that tips the scales at 14+% alcohol. The wine is layered, unctuously textured, full-bodied with tremendous intensity, moderately high tannin, and a 40-second finish. The wine needs a good 4-5 years of cellaring. This Grange should ultimately merit a higher score when it is closer to its plateau of drinkability.

Wine Spectator Author: Harvey Steiman

A massive wine, with cascades of potent plum, cherry and blackberry fruit swirling around wafts of black pepper, bay leaf and exotic spice, which last and last on the finish, hinting at smoky, meaty notes. It's all packed in tightly, suggesting this should evolve spectacularly with age. 10,228 cases made.

Good flavor. Nice, strong finish. Still required a fair amount of time to open up. Defeinitely benefitted from decanting.

A stunning wine. Decant for an hour. Beautiful nose, almost Bordeaux like, great mouth feel and long finish. Mature but years left. Best wine in Australia

Refined blueberry pie with hints of pepper, leather and tobacco. Delicious! Glad we brought it back from Australia and celebrated our daugher's birth with this very special wine!
