International Wine Cellar Author: Stephen Tanzer Issue: Issue 105

($120) Wonderfully subtle, complex aromas of white flowers, acacia honey, minerals, nuts and mushroom, with musky and leesy nuances. Oily, rich and smoky but with terrific verve and lift. Quite substantial and chewy for a young D.P. but not at all heavy. Yellow plum and strong soil tones in the middle and on the palate-staining finish. Offers a rare combination of richness and finesse. (Schieffelin & Somerset, New York, NY)

Jancis Robinson Author: Jancis Robinson

Very green. Real autolysis character – very Dom P, very flattering! Surprisingly sweet on the palate though which jars a bit. Or is this just the richness of the vintage? Certainly this is the easiest wine to drink so far in the tasting… Very persistent mousse. Lots of interesting components all in balance. Quite long.

Richard Juhlin Author: Richard Juhlin Issue: Issue 1

Here is a soft, charming, sensual, and classic Dom Perignon. The wine carpets the palate with the softest silky texture you can desire. This supple, complex wine runs down your throat with the greatest ease, trailing a fresh aftertaste. The aromatic palette is the same as usual, with its exotic fruit and breakfast-y notes, as well as an unusually strong dash of vanilla that is a distinguishing feature of the vintage.

Exotic, with ripe candied fruit character (black currant and citrus) and biscuit notes that unfold on an open yet firm structure. Lingers subtly on the finish.

A wonderful, complex, fruity champagne. Probably peaking or a bit beyond. Tasted with a NV Veuve Cliquot and the group was split on which they preferred. For the price, Veuve gets my vote.
