Dark, saturated ruby-garnet. Complex aromas of plum, chocolate and spices. Round, full, smooth and elegant, with sweet fruit and attractive chocolate notes. Very good focus and grip. A house that has gone through numerous ups and downs in recent years, including some wines that were frankly not clean, but this is certainly a very good Brunello. The 1995 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna di Pianrosso is a full-bodied, backward, seriously-endowed, muscular offering requiring an additional 3-5 years of bottle age. It is not for those who are unable to defer their gratification. The wine exhibits Asian spice, black cherry, and grilled meat aromas and flavors intermixed with dried Provencal herb and underbrush notes.

Certainly darker and denser than the 1993, this wine was a actually a bit withdrawn and had to be coaxed out of some of its early stubbornness. Meaty plums, violet and cedar notes emerge in the nose, foreshadowing a hearty palate that was characterized by a masculine, tannic feel. A savory finish suffocates some of the strawberry fruit struggling to emerge, making this wine a prime candidate for a fatty dish to tame some of its structure.
