International Wine Cellar Author: Stephen Tanzer Issue: Issue 78

Good medium red-ruby color. Less expressive but lively aromas of blue fruits and brown spices, plus a hint of confiture Not as ripe or fleshy as the '96, but the dark berry and licorice flavors are currently rather tightly wrapped and unforthcoming. Finishes with substantial dusty (oak?) tannins that betray a slight astringency. Perhaps still in shock from the bottling.

A beauty in the elegant, restrained, finesse school of winemaking, the dark ruby/purple-colored 1995 Branaire exhibits a floral, cranberry, cherry, and black currant-scented nose intermixed with high quality toasty new oak. Medium-bodied, with excellent definition, supple tannin, and an attractive, alluring personality, this pleasant, measured yet complex wine should drink well young, and keep for two decades.

Currant and black licorice, with a coffee undertone. Plummy. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long caressing finish. A beauty. Holding back still.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective.

Dark colour; nice but not overpowering fruits on the nose; it was extremely fine and elegant on the palate with soft tannins and nice berry fruits; a long finish; I think this wine is now approacing its peak.

Very suprising how persistant this wine is for a 1995. Earthy and slightly sweet with a note of fruit in the end.

Very good color; high toned; elegant, classy nose of black fruit, spice, and leather; smilar on the palate; fullish body; very good round, soft, and well integrated tannins; ripe & with good if not great acidity; fat & seductive; med.-long finish; very good.

Some sediment in intense garnet core with tawny rim variation. Clean somewhat muted bouquet of leather, cassis, and figs with hints of cedar and smoke. Dry palate that was at first rather tight and boozy but opened with some airing to black fruits, dried figs and licorice. Drink now
