Saturated ruby-red. Highly nuanced, floral aromas of red berries, baking spices, leather and smoky, roasted oak. Sweet and attractive in the mouth, with supple red berry and spicy oak flavors supported by lively acids. Finishes fairly tannic and quite spicy; turned dry with aeration and rather overwhelmingly oaky.

Wine Advocate

While it is fashionable to criticize this wine because of its price, and the secrecy surrounding the amount produced (who really cares?), the wine is unquestionably outstanding. The 1995 boasts a dark ruby/purple color as well as an attractive bouquet with lavish quantities of toasty new oak and black currants. There is moderate tannin, good purity, and an open-knit, sexy style. If the wine had not fallen a bit short on the mid-palate, it would have merited an even higher score. It should drink well for 10-15 years. Based on the fame of this winery and the price of the wine, one would expect this Cabernet to compete with Colgin, Bryant Family Vineyards, Screaming Eagle, Araujo, and Harlan Estate. It does not. Nevertheless, it is an outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon.

Sleek and well-structured, with a braid of exotic smoke, currant, green olive and herbal flavors that drape together nicely, holding a tight focus and showing how ripe, supple tannins can integrate without dominating. Finishes with a dash of mocha and spice.--1995 California Cabernet retrospective. 2,000 cases made.

Dark rich purple color. Refined spice in the nose. Wonderful silky fullness on the palate. Complex fruit and spice in great balance-black currants and berries.

From magnum; not decanted (didn't need it), just popped and poured. Bouquet of crushed berries, wood and mineral. Somewhat lightweight on the palate, but full of flavor, with currant, cherry compote and a fairly long, but slightly tart finish similar to cranberries. A wine with presence, from a great California vintage. It's hard to say how much longer this wine could hold out, because magnums age more slowly than 750ml bottles. That said, I would think magnums or larger could go another three or four years, but 750mls and smaller should be consumed now and will probably be past their prime within a year.
