Reviews For This Wine

International Wine Cellar | 94(+?)

Deep, saturated ruby. Explosive, slightly port-like aromas of blackberry, milk chocolate, sandalwood, shoe polish and minerals. A thick, superconcentrated fruit essence on the palate; conveys an impression of saline extract and solidity. Thick, slightly alcoholic and almost painful; beyond Amarone but somehow maintains balance and freshness. A monolith that may well merit a higher score with extended bottle aging. Pair this with rare brontosaurus steak, preferably consumed outdoors on a cold January night.

About This Producer

Established in 1978, Greenock Creek is a tiny "boutique" Barossa winery with a production level of only 2,500 cases per year, owned by Michael and Annabel Waugh. Greenock Creek produces Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet with grapes from two prime growing regions in the heart of the Barossa Valley: Seppeltsfield and Marananga. Michael Waugh makes 100% Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet; each wine is created with fruit from a particular vineyard block. Yields are low, ridiculously so in the case of the Roennfeldt Road Shiraz and Cabernet blocks, where half a ton an acre is typical from the 60-year-old vines.
