Wonderfully elegant white pear and green apple notes are followed by medium weight, relatively round flavors that offer good acid/fruit balance and acceptable length. The delicious flavors are fully mature and offer good depth, weight and length and this is drinking perfectly now.

I was bowled-over by the quality of the 1995 Corton-Charlemagne, it is certainly the finest wine I have tasted from this famous estate. Beguiling aromas of red berries, vanilla, and traces of coconut are followed by a powerful punch of concentrated, extracted, and intense flavors. This gorgeous medium-to-full-bodied wine has a tightly wound "nugget" of red currants, almonds, hazelnuts, pears, and minerals in its silky-textured, extremely well-balanced, and admirably long character. It should be at its peak between 2002 and 2010. Bravo! to Jean-Charles de la Moriniere for the three outstanding Corton-Charlemagnes he has crafted since taking over this estate in 1994.

Delicious and superbly balanced, with ripe tropical fruit, spice and oak accents supported by a solid frame. The citrus flavors give this full-bodied wine zest, but it's still big and rich. Just wonderful to drink now through 2005. 4,000 cases made.

About This Producer

With vineyards donated by Emperor Charlemagne himself on the most desirable stretch of the Corton hill, Domain Bonneau Du Martray remains the largest single holding of the Charlemagne climate. It is the one and only domaine in Burgundy to produce exclusively Grand Cru wines and one of the finest white wine producers in the Cote D'Or. The estate's ownership has only changed hands three times since 775 with the current proprietor, Jean-Charles le Bault de la Monriere, taking over for his father in 1994.

The unique feature of the 9.5-hectare contiguous block of land is the orientation of the vines. Facing west and southwest at their altitude, the growing season is longer, which lends the wines greater complexity. As well as crafting perhaps Burgundy's most majestic Corton-Charlemagne, Bonneau Du Martray also produces a small amount of Grand Cru red Corton.
