Cos d'Estournel's unfiltered 1994 is one of the top wines of the vintage. It boasts an opaque blue/black/purple color, as well as a fabulously sweet nose of black fruits, licorice, pain grillee, and Asian spices. Full-bodied, with sweet, opulent fruit that reveals none of the vintage's tough tannin, this remarkably rich, well-balanced, classic wine will prove to be uncommonly long-lived. Cos d'Estournel is clearly producing wines that are often of first-growth potential.

Still can benefit from time in the bottle. Dark berry and plum fruit. Earth and chalk tones. Medium to -full-bodied. Tannins still noticeable but integrating well. Decent length to the finish.

1 bottle owned and now tasted. Ruby red color with classic Bordeaux aroma of dried fruit and rich soil. Medium body with very smooth and integrated tannins, dried black cherries and leather. Medium body with elegance and smoothness that lingers on the tongue. Slightly austere but a classic St. Estephe. Will keep or enjoy now.

Deep color, wonderful notes of fruit, tar, licorice, a little oak. Great balance -- plenty of tannins, but plenty of fruit. Jennifer said it tasted "chemically" ... a reaction, no doubt, to the combination of oak and terroir. Yet another great Cos ...
