This is one of the finest efforts from Beaulieu in some time. Not since the mid-eighties has BV made a Private Reserve Cabernet with such richness and potential. The wine boasts a dark ruby/purple color, an attractive nose of sweet, toasty new oak, and ripe red and black fruits. In the mouth, there is a layered texture, full-bodied richness, excellent purity, and sweet tannin in the long finish. This wine can be drunk now as well as over the next 15-20 years. Bravo to BV!

Complex floral, black cherry, spice and currant aromas lead to a rich, polished, deftly balanced wine offering mature hints of anise and sage, and finishing with a long, lingering aftertaste that's supple and elegant.--California Cabernet '74/'84/'94 retrospective. 13,500 cases made.

We drank the 1994 Caymus Napa and the 1994 BV Latour side by side with the Kelley's over a nice BBQ dinner. Both wines showed good color, the Caymus was a little cloudy and both had lost some body. The Caymus was a little thin and had a green bell pepper flavor after it was first opened, this flavor faded as the wine opened up. Nothing great - the wine was well past its prime but for being 18 years old it held up. The BV showed a little better, medium body, dried fruit, rutherford dust and a light finish. No oak was left in either bottle.

Garnet in color. Low rim variation. Fast legs. Blackberry, Black Pepper. Medium bodied. Silky texture. Long finish. Still showing tannins, but good balance of fruit and tannin. Still has a lot of life left, still tasting like a traditional California cab.

Subdued nose with cedar and a trace of quince. Dark red fruit on the palate with layers of flavor. Medium body with nice finish. Great food wine as the tannins have fully resolved. This still has a long way to go and has gotten better since last tasted a year ago.

Full and luscious - still incredibly good. Luckily I still have 2 more bottles! I'll drink them soon, because I can't imagine them getting much better.

Drinking very nicely. Enjoyable core of earth and tabacco.
