More Vintages and Sizes of Epeneaux (Armand) - Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 1er Cru:
Author: Allen Meadows
Issue: Issue 32
(the first modern vintage bottled without filtration) A slightly cloudy though deeply colored appearance. The '93 Clos des Epeneaux is blessed with a positively brilliant nose that is a beguiling mix of still primary though mostly secondary fruit, earth, spice and a hint of animale aromas that introduce rich, full and naturally sweet big-bodied flavors that possess impressive concentration on the velvety and still firm finish that seems to go on and on without end. This is still a very serious wine and while the structural backbone is still prominent, there is so much mid-palate stuffing that this should continue to age effortlessly for another 25 to 30 years though its apogee is now within sight. In short, a terrific effort that I have enjoyed many times with mostly consistent notes.

Just coming into its own. Great fruit on the palate and layers of flavor through the finish. Would appear to age another 5-10 years with ease.

Just now reaching maturity and coming out of its hard shell (esp. being from magnum); full & ample; complex black & red fruit; very good tannins which are softening and becoming more integrated but at a slower pace than the 750ml bottles; very, very rich; long finish; will develop further. Great Pommard!
