The 1992 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve is a stylish, polite, elegant Cabernet with a healthy ruby color, medium body, and an attractive, understated set of aromatics. Although not extracted or particularly powerful, this wine offers considerable charm, elegance, and ripe fruit in a medium-bodied, silky-textured format. In spite of its accessibility, it promises to last for 10-15+ years. Interestingly, the wine is now aged in 32% new French oak as opposed to the old practice of aging the wine in 100% American oak. The difference is apparent in the more subtle integration of oak in the wine's aromatics and flavors.

Balanced and pretty, with plenty of blackberry, raspberry and mint character. Full-bodied and chewy, with lots of velvety tannins and a medium finish, which needs a bit more fruit to be outstanding.--Georges de Latour Private Reserve vertical. 9,400 cases made.

I give this wine a high rating due to its ability to stay good. After 18 years the color is garnet, the clarity is perfect. The weight is good but not has heavy as a typical cabernet. The fruit comes right from the start and lasts to the finish. The rutherford dust is no longer there but that is it. This is Great age worthy wine! I wish I had more to drink.

About This Producer

In 1900, when Georges de Latour's wife, Fernande, first laid eyes on the land that would become their original Rutherford vineyard, she named it "beau lieu," or "beautiful place." Shortly thereafter, de Latour sold his thriving cream of tartar business, bought the four-acre ranch and founded Beaulieu Vineyard with the vision of making Napa Valley wines that would rival those of his native France. Today the winery continues to turn to innovative practices to craft wines in a bold, classic style. They have become a leader in clonal research, and the BV Clone Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon wines are highly acclaimed. Most recently a new state-of-the-art winery was completed within one of the original buildings. The Georges de Latour Private Reserve Winery utilizes the latest technology in combination with time-honored traditions for the production of this exceptional, wine-the longtime benchmark of Rutherford Cabernet.
