Jancis Robinson Author: Jancis Robinson

Very deep crimson with a fully mature rim. Rich, fruity, velvety nose that is very slightly charred and, served blind, even more obviously Pomerol than a 1990. A slightly marie/oyster shells note. Velvety texture. Punchy palate impact – no fading flower. A roasted quality with an iron/mineral streak.

Bordeaux Book(1998) Author: Robert Parker

The 1990 remains one of the great modern day L'Evangiles, rivaling such superb vintages as 1995, 1985, 1982, 1975, 1950, and 1947. It possesses a deep purple color, a youthful but promising nose of sweet black fruits, chocolate, caramel, truffles, and minerals. The wine is exceptionally rich and full-bodied, with admirable glycerin and thickness. Its development in the glass indicates the wine is still in a youthful, dormant stage. The finish is full of sweet fruit, with the wine's extract concealing moderate tannin. The 1990 is a fabulously pure, rich L'Evangile to drink between the turn of the century and 2020.

Big and ripe. Dark ruby-garnet color. Very ripe berry, chocolate and plum aromas. Full-bodied and chewy, with lots of tannins and a very ripe fruit finish. Tight, muscular and concentrated. Needs time.--1990 Bordeaux retrospective. 4,500 cases made.

Outstanding wine. Didn't decant. Served a touch warm I thought at around 16 degrees. Earthy, dark fruit. Deep red/purple colour. Fruit still there but giving way to earthier notes on palate.

Slightly stinky nose, fully evolved but starting to decline. Better than last bottle with more intensity, violets, leather, dates.

Claret: Cassis and currant on the nose. Coco and plum on the palate. Tannins are completely resolved and there is some bricking. Light on the mid palate but nice finish. Drink Now.

The fruit has come off a little bit relative to other 1990 Bordeaux. Maybe a little long in the tooth and reaching maturity.
