Rich, ripe nose. Dense and velvety. Interesting – more layers than many of the wines. Round and gentle and layered. Subtle. Slightly volatile and slightly old-fashioned in structure and some rather dry, dusty tannins. Quite long.

I thought this wine had the potential to be outstanding, but it is typical of many recent vintages of this chateau - blatantly oaky! The color is a deep ruby. The nose, in addition to the tell-tale blast of sweet, spicy new oak, offers the vintage's jammy cherry, curranty fruit intermixed with tobacco and herbs. This is a medium-bodied wine with good sweetness, excellent concentration, and moderate tannin. It is an elegant, stylish 1990 that should mature gracefully. Last tasted 9/97
