High-toned fruit with fresh, bright blackberry fruit aromas and the barest trace of secondary character to the tight, very ripe, beautifully complex flavors. There is still quite a bit of tannin still to resolve though this has excellent density of extract and solid balance. Rich, long and impressive if not especially detailed. Another recent bottle tasted in Burgundy was fresher than the one at the big Richebourg retrospective held in '01. A very impressive effort that will live for decades. Consistent notes.

Lively crimson, Rich and sumptuous and super-flattering nose. Lovely acidity and raciness - quite delicate and dancing. Real lift and compression. This wine has density and yet manages to dance too. Long and engaging. More fragile but more appealing than the 1990 Roman©e-St-Vivant. Hint of mint and black pepper too!

Tasted blind at the Domaine, the Richebourg 1990 has an ethereal bouquet that immediately indicates a warm vintage. Crushed strawberry, a touch of dark cherries, oyster shell and hints of Hoi Sin develop with a slight decayed quality indicating the age. The palate is a saline tang on the entry, fine sturdy tannins typical of Richebourg but without the finesse of say, La Tache. Crisp citrus peel enlivens the mouth with subtle notes of black truffle towards the finish. Very good length, but there is a rusticity to this Richebourg that is perhaps polished away by Aubert de Villaine nowadays.

Ripe and tannic, but smoothly polished, offering several layers of spice, fruit and toast, centered around a tight core of plum and currant flavor. Has richness and elegance to spare but needs cellaring. Tasted twice, with the first bottle showing a decidedly earthy edge. 1,315 cases made.
