Reviews For This Wine

Burghound | 96

From 750 ml this is perhaps not quite as fresh as from magnum but otherwise, the nose is exactly the same: this is a giant of a wine with simply unbelievable aromatic complexity of green apple, obvious minerality, white flowers and a subtle note of anise followed by powerful, full-bodied, sappy flavors blessed with massive amounts of dry extract and length that I could taste 2 days later. This rivals if not surpasses the reference standard '89 and is a genuinely great wine by any definition. This could be approached now with pleasure though it will benefit from another year or two in bottle. ¡

Tasted four times, with my notes ranging from perfection to extraordinary.

Exceptionally well-made wine that's huge, yet refined. There's a symphony of flavors, including coconut, apple and pineapple, with a fine backbone of acidity.

About This Producer

According to Robert Parker, "Jean-Francois Coche-Dury is one of the greatest winemakers on planet Earth." Parker' impassioned reverence to this estate in the late '80s brought its appeal worldwide, but neither triple digit scores nor critical acclaim need speak for the insanely low yields and meticulous winemaking that give Domaine Coche-Dury its mystique.

Approximately half of the domaine's nine hectares of vineyards are situated around its hometown of Meursault, and although Coche is best known for Chardonnay, the domaine also bottles six exquisite Pinot Noirs. Famous for the extensive oak treatment and a staggering 22 months in barrel, Coche Dury's finest wines, such as Corton Charlemagne and Meursault Perrieres, have power, concentration, purity, and depth balanced by vibrant acidity for extreme longevity.
