Both the 1989 and 1990 wines scored slightly lower than in previous tastings. In contrast to the 1990, the 1989 Beychevelle, which usually performs better than it did in the recent tasting, is an elegant, medium-bodied wine with soft tannin, copious quantities of ripe, herb-tinged, blackcurrant fruit, some evidence of toasty oak, and a generous, velvety-textured finish. It appears to be evolving quickly, and can be drunk now as well as over the next 15 years.

Slightly rustic, but featuring loads of chocolate and berry and hints of flowers. Full-bodied, with minty, floral and cherry flavors and a velvety texture. Loads of mouthpuckering tannins. Needs time. Blockbuster for Beychevelle.--1989 Bordeaux horizontal.

Drink this up now! Still very good, but changed dramatically in the glass over the course of 2 hours.

This wine was most definitely better than my previous bottle. The appearance and bouquet were of a similar nature but the palate had much less acid and was more silky smooth with that characteristic long Bordeaux finish. This bottle was far more as it should be and extremely enjoyable. I just hope the rest will be as good or even better!!

Blueberry, cedar and cinnamon On the nose. Tannins have dissolved into silky dark fruit flavors on the palate. Medium chalk finish Still a very nice wine.

Absolutely terrific aged Claret with nice fruit and soft tannins. Complex deep black berry with some spice, cedar and leather nuances. Extremely food friendly with a modest 13% alcohol. Seemed younger than its 20 years.
