($100) Full red-ruby. Aromas of cherry, leather and meat, with dusty and minty nuances. Then surprisingly sweet and silky in the mouth; classic dry-but-sweet claret flavors framed by firm acids and solid, ripe tannins. Not fat but certainly palate-coating and long. This got better and better with aeration.

This is an elegant 1982, with blueberry, raspberry, mineral, and spicy oak aromas in the moderately intense, polite bouquet. The color is a healthy dark ruby with no lightening or amber. The wine exhibits firmness in the mouth as well as good flesh, a sweet, ripe entry, medium body, and impressive elegance and length. Not a blockbuster such as Gruaud-Larose, Leoville-Las-Cases, Leoville-Barton, and Leoville-Poyferre, this youthful, vibrant 1982 is a model of symmetry and finesse.
