($141; 85% viura and 15% malvasia) Yellow-gold. Yellow plum, peach and orange rind on the nose, with complicating notes of cinnamon, mace and allspice. The equally complex palate offers sweet pit fruit and citrus flavors and touches of smoky oak and marzipan. Gains weight and nuttiness with air without loss of energy and finishes with clinging honey and orange marmalade qualities. This would be great with a rich poultry or shellfish dish.

Excellent. Fino sherry notes on the nose with bitter apple, roasted nuts and earth. Aromas of mustard greens, and rosemary. On the palate, burnt orange peel, bitter almonds and lemon zest. Rich without too much weight, has a long finish, strong acidity, and a number of years of life left. Gradually, pollen and anise coming forward in bouquet.

About This Producer

For over one hundred and thirty years, three generations of the Lopez de Heredia family have devoted themselves to producing exceptional and unique wines.

Vina Tondonia is the bodega's most famous vineyard and product. Tondonia is a beautiful vineyard of over 100 hectares, situated on the right bank of the river Ebro, where the most typical Rioja wines are grown. Apart from Tondonia, Lopez de Heredia owns three more vineyards, all of which are also set in the Rioja Alta region. These are the "Vina Cubillo," "Vina Bosconia" and "Vina Zaconia."

The estate uses typical Rioja varieties: Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo for reds, and Viura and Malvasia for whites. Vineyard care, a scrupulous selection of grapes, aging in oak barrels in the heart of deep underground galleries, and further aging in bottles, all contribute to making these illustrious wines with their exceptional bouquet.
