Remarkably ripe, in fact this is the ripest nose I can ever remember a bottle of the '78 Richebourg showing followed by rich, elegant, fantastically complex flavors and outstanding length. If one wanted to nit pick, a bit more acid balance would be nice but I like this a lot as it's incredibly seductive. Impressive.

Colour beautifully shaded just like the Echezeaux 1978. Hint of violets – a really high topnote. Lovely sweetness and unctuousness, Quite a different qualith on the palate however: very long with smoothness, sweetness and unctuousness.

The 1978 Richebourg reveals a medium ruby color, with a blossoming, still unevolved and youthful bouquet of sweet black fruits, minerals, smoke, soy sauce, and spices. In the mouth, the wine is full-bodied, with plenty of concentration, good acidity, firm tannins, and a rich, long finish. Amazingly, it has still not reached full maturity. This wine should turn out to be profound.

About This Producer

Domaine de la Romanee Conti (DRC) is Burgundy's most famous estate, producing all grand cru wines from 25 hectares of vines. The wines are made in extremely limited quantities and generate some of the highest prices on the market. DRC produces the grand crus Romanee Conti, La Tache, Richebourg, Romanee Saint Vivant, Grands Echezeaux, Echezeaux and Montrachet, of which both Romanee Conti and La Tache are monopoles.

Aubert de Villiane has farmed the vineyards organically since 1986 and adhered to traditional, natural winemaking practices. Only natural yeasts are used and aging is done in 100% new oak. The wines are characterized by finesse, balance and refinement. They directly reflect their sense of place and have the ability to age while increasing in both character and value.
