Château Angelus is located just west of the town of St. Emilion and run by cousins Hubert de Boüard de Laforest and Jean-Bernard Grenié. The property was promoted to Prémier Grand Cru Classé status in 1996. Typical blends consist of Merlot and Cabernet Franc which are grown on Angelus's southerly-exposed vineyards. Good dark ruby color w/amber edge; lovely nose of black fruit and earth notes; soft integrated tannins; initially closed but opened up significantly in the glass to a rich, elegant wine with soft tannins, low acid, and an intense long finish (needs decanting an hour in advance). Lovely now and will hold and may develop further.
