Producer Notes

Since its founding in 1525, Château Haut-Brion has passed between many illustrious owners, including admirals, archbishops, and mayors of Bordeaux. Had this once before and was slightly disappointed. However, tonight I understood why this wine is so coveted. Dark crimson, powerful. A little reticent on the nose at first but an hour in glass and it began to open. The structure is remarkable with complex flavours throughout. The impression is that this wine has another 50 years ahead and it may even be too early to drink now. Not as fruit forward as the 1990 Conseillante on the same night but more complex and intriguing. Will keep accumulating through the years.
