Producer Notes
Classified as a Second Growth Bordeaux estate, Château Cos d'Estournel is without doubt, one of the top producers in the St. Estèphe appellation, producing complex and intense, full-bodied wines. The château is often referred to as "super second," meaning that it produces wines at a quality nearing that of the First Growth houses. Still drinking beautifully, even though I had it in a plastic cup at an Eric Clapton concert. Tannins completely absorbed and fruit has a soft, nuanced wave of flavor. That said, drink now; probably peaked last year.

Well made Cos, though lacking elegance.

Our group did a bring your favorite bottle tasting and the 85 Cos was the favorite bottle of the evening, tasted blind against a 2003 Lafite, an 04 Maiden and some other spectacular wines. This wine is probably at it's peak with a soft nose, still ripe with fruit (berries, plums and a hint of tobacco) and a nice balance of tannins, great finish.

Just barely hanging on. The cork was completely saturated. I could sense this must have been a great wine at one time. Perhaps I got a bad bottle. Will try another and post a review.

Deep ruby, very slight ambering at the edges. Somewhat closed on first opening, then yields rich, powerful blackcurrant, along with earthy tones such as leather, smoke, chocolate, tar and a little grass. Medium body, balanced, with plenty of tannins ... and a touch of apple/melon in the long finish. Mature wine, but there seems to be plenty of life in this. Delicious!

This wine is now past it's peak, but still offers some fond memories of the fruit and balance that was. Hold if you are a fan of old Bordeaux. Otherwise RIP
