Producer Notes
Classified as a Second Growth Bordeaux estate, Château Cos d'Estournel is without doubt, one of the top producers in the St. Estèphe appellation, producing complex and intense, full-bodied wines. The château is often referred to as "super second," meaning that it produces wines at a quality nearing that of the First Growth houses. Cos d'Estournel wines contain a large amount of Merlot (40%), one... More »

My red wine of the night. Pretty nose on shot leather, rust, saw dust, soured cherries, lavender, and dried flowers. Jolting acid provides grip, a balanced structure on the tongue, and a 45 second finish. A ton of stuffing. Retasted the end of the night (it would have been open for about 4 hours) and this wine was still kicking, a nice surprise as all of the other older Cos and PC were dying in the glass.

incredibly delicious Strong dark fruits with leather, pencil shavings and smoke. Tannins are still present and this wine will last another 20 years. After 3 hours open it reached its zenith with perfect balance. It cannot get much better than this

For me, whilst I may have tasted finer wines than the Cos 82, this remains my all time favourite and is a monumental wine! Ironically, this particular bottle was also one of the finest examples that I have tasted! On opening it had a powerful aroma of black fruits intermixed with coffee and vanilla and, shortly after, blackberries and blackcurrants with exotic spices, ripe fruit, tobacco and flowers. The appearance was one of a dark ruby to purple color with a classic light amber edge to the rim. Naturally, this is a full bodied and succulent wine with a very full mouth and long palate. Very silky with tremendous finesse and an opulent texture. It still has good concentration, with blackberry, cassis, fruits of all varieties, of course vanilla and tobacco with a significant spiciness both exotic and otherwise. In fact the flavours continuously changed and developed as the drinking progressed and frankly there are just too many to name! Outstanding is the minimum that one can say for this wine!!

RP: THis 1982 is still displaying a beautiful deep ruby/purple hue as well as a stunning set of aromatics consisting of blue and black fruits, loamy earth, flowers, licorice, and spice box. The wine is medium to full-bodied with wsweet tannins, a medium to full-body mouthfeel, and a silky finish. It appears to have hit full maturity, but it can easily be held in a cold cellar for another 10+ years.

A silky smooth, delicious Bordeaux. Hints of spice through the long finish. A fully mature wine from a great vintage. This is why we love Bordeaux.
