Producer Notes
Ann Colgin, a former fine art dealer, began her label in 1992, and it quickly became one of the most sought-after names in Napa. Winemaking duties were originally handled by Helen Turley, who seamlessly gave way to her disciple Mark Aubert in 1999. Dark purple in color. The nose had black fruit, tobacco, chocolate, some earthiness. On the palate the tannins were still very strong and the fruit was very intense. Full bodied and powerful with a long lasting finish.

The Cariad is a Bordeaux blend consisting of 55% Cabernet, 35% Merlot, 5% Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot all sourced from David Abreu?s Madrona Ranch Vineyard save for the Verdot which came from Abreu?s Thorevilos Vineyard. It was aged for 25 months in 100% new French oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. The Cariad has sweet fruit, espresso, seashells, and game aromas. Some prickly heat and tannin but the wine?s formidable concentration handles these factors well enough. Excellent length with plenty of sweet espresso on the back end. Not a wine to cellar for a long period of time (very few 2000s from Napa Valley are), drink now to 2009.
