Producer Notes

Château Beaucastel, run by the Perrin brothers, is regarded as one of the best estates of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. At 131 hectares of vineyards, it is also one of the largest estates in the region. It is atypical of the appellation in its production techniques. It is one of three estates to produce and vinify all 13 grapes permitted under the regulations of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Dark ruby w/ amber rim; lovely nose; absolutely delicious; very complex; soft; long, lingering finish; elegant; good intensity but more finesse than brute power; clean without the bret/barnyard notes typical of Beaucastle; ready, holding well w/plenty of life ahead.

A superb wine in its prime! Still shows the gorgeous fruit it had in its youth. Lavender, spice, violets, and black pepper. Amazing depth and color

Leather, spice, and layer of flora underneath. Great depth of aroma. Great with lamb.

Leather, plums, tar, earthiness, spice..... Strong tannins and structure... A great wine... Full, moth coating attack, with a plummy, cassis almost sweet overlay to spicy, leathery base...

Tasted from a magnum, this wine shows that it can still stand at least another decade in the cellar. A slightly muted nose of red fruits, spice, and warm heat. On the palate, the wine is plush with tons of sweet fruit, pepper, and spice. Probably drinking ? point from a 750, from magnum the wine will be better in another five to seven years. The 1991 Wine of the Year according to the Wine Spectator.
