Caymus Vineyards was founded in 1972 by the Wagner family in Napa Valley's Rutherford district. The Wagners originally immigrated to the San Francisco Bay area from Alsace in the late 1880s. From magnum; not decanted (didn't need it), just popped and poured. Bouquet of crushed berries, wood and mineral. Somewhat lightweight on the palate, but full of flavor, with currant, cherry compote and a fairly long, but slightly tart finish similar to cranberries. A wine with presence, from a great California vintage. It's hard to say how much longer this wine could hold out, because magnums age more slowly than 750ml bottles. That said, I would think magnums or larger could go another three or four years, but 750mls and smaller should be consumed now and will probably be past their prime within a year.
