Producer Notes

The mission statement reads, in part, "To produce organically grown fruit and with this fruit make a singular wine of the highest caliber and distinction." By all accounts, Bart and Daphne Araujo are succeeding magnificently. The flagship wine, the Cabernet Sauvignon from their own Eisele Vineyards, is hailed by critics and desired by consumers in every vintage. Though first planted to Zinfandel... More »

Phenomenal! A show stopper of a wine with earthy notes as well as a metallic twinge on the mid palate. 20 second finish leaves you waiting for the next sip. A great effort, from an excellent vintage.

I'm not happy about the egregious price increase (up $35 a bottle compared to the 2000) but the quality of this wine is exceptional and likely is the best Araujo Cabernet Sauvignon yet fashioned (at a minimum the best since 1996). Deeply colored with lots of thin moderately pigmented legs. Complex ever changing aromas of milk, baker?s chocolate, ripe almost syrupy cherries, milk chocolate brownies, blackberry, a touch of blueberry, and just a hint of minerals. Thick and fairly heavy tannins but they are so smooth and velvety one barely notices them. Intense flavors coat the palate and last for over a minute. Surprisingly good acidity despite the wine?s incredibly deep fruit. A wine so good that you don'twant to share. Powerful yet ethereal ? what every wine strives for but so few achieve. Very forward. After receiving a cold soak and extended maceration, the wine was raised in 100% new French oak for 22 months. 96% Cabernet and 4% Franc.
