Producer Notes

The mission statement reads, in part, "To produce organically grown fruit and with this fruit make a singular wine of the highest caliber and distinction." By all accounts, Bart and Daphne Araujo are succeeding magnificently. The flagship wine, the Cabernet Sauvignon from their own Eisele Vineyards, is hailed by critics and desired by consumers in every vintage. Though first planted to Zinfandel... More »

A nice wine. Complex and mature but still with a bit of fresh fruit and a slightly spicy nose.

Complex, full-bodied cab. Good length, low acidity. Could easily spend another 5-8 years in bottle. No sign of fading.

Made of a blend of varietals sourced solely from the Eisele vineyard (84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, and 3% Merlot), the estate Cabernet Sauvignon is Araujo?s flagship wine. Francoise Peschon brings up the wine with an assist from the nearly ubiquitous Michel Rolland. The wine was aged in 100% new French oak for 22 months prior to bottling. Medium black cherry colored wine with tell tale Araujo aromas of Oreo cookies, graham crackers, acidic plum, mint, and spice. Slightly acidic on the palate with lots of dark fruits, wood, and more of the Araujo cookies and crackers. Moderate tannins and adequate length. A good wine but far from what one would expect from Araujo. Little difference between the Estate and the Altagracia in this vintage (although the Estate will last longer).
