Producer Notes

The mission statement reads, in part, "To produce organically grown fruit and with this fruit make a singular wine of the highest caliber and distinction." By all accounts, Bart and Daphne Araujo are succeeding magnificently. The flagship wine, the Cabernet Sauvignon from their own Eisele Vineyards, is hailed by critics and desired by consumers in every vintage. Though first planted to Zinfandel... More »

Delicious, mature cab. Tannins well integrated but noticeable grip on the finish. Wonderful dark fruit framed by notes of olive tapenade, sauce sauce and bacon fat. Slight smokiness. Good complexity with an elegant finish that lingers on the palate. A special bottle.

This magnum was magnificent. A full, big, dark wine. What a joy! Everyone loved it!

Only two 6 liter bottles of this incredible vintage exist, and I opened this one, which I originally bought at Rusty Staub's auction several years ago in New York, on the occasion of my birthday. Fortunately, I had a few friends join me in tasting it. We decanted half of the wine and let it breathe for over two hours before savoring it. Still fruity and elegant, with a long, velvety finish. It drank like a first growth Bordeaux. I was honored to have Bart and Daphne Araujo there to share it with us. Bravo!

Translucent medium garnet turning just slightly clear at the rim. Thick just barely colored legs. A velvety, frankly gorgeous textured wine with a very attractive bouquet of warmed earth and stone, cherries, and milk with hints of bakers chocolate and dried herbs. Tannins still make their presence felt although they are completely integrated and smooth as silk. Excellent acidity levels. Impressive length. A blend of 93% Cabernet, 4% Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot that was aged for 22 months in French oak (75% new) before being put into glass.

One of the best Cab's I have had. Balance and potent but still soft fruit. Would have lasted forever - I shall miss it . . . . .
